Lafayette College has an opening for a Full-Time Police Officer.
Responsibilities
• The Police Officer is charged with the security of life, limb, property, and equipment
• The enforcement of Lafayette College rules, regulations, City Ordinances and Federal and State laws
• Provide armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot. This includes patrols assigned by the Public Safety Command Staff which are listed on our “Directed Patrol” list and posted at headquarters
• Investigate reports of criminal activity
• Document any police interactions and prepare reports in the department’s record management system
• Provide security of all campus buildings and property by assisting in the securing of buildings and reporting any circumstances that present a danger to college students, employees or property
• Direct traffic and investigate motor vehicle accidents
• Provide a variety of services including but not limited to: medical transports, motorist assists, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, respond to fire alarms, burglary alarms panic alarms, accident and criminal investigations
• Conduct crime awareness programs along with Resident Advisors for the students
• Check for and report all suspicious activity, equipment malfunction, and other irregularities
• Provide for security at special events
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Chief of Police, Lieutenant or Sergeant
Qualifications
• Completion of PA Act 120 training
• Certifiable under Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training Act
• Ability to be commissioned as a police officer under Section 501 of the Non-Profit Corporation Law
• Meet requirements of Section 7504 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code
• Pennsylvania residency at time of appointment.
• Excellent organizational skills, superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public
• Prior experience as a community-oriented police officer is a plus.
