Under supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Assistant Director, and Director of Public Safety, the public safety dispatcher position involves answering the telephone, getting a location and sending appropriate response units to calls for service. Depending on the type of call, the dispatcher will need to dispatch police, security, fire, emergency medical and other public safety services. The public safety dispatcher must possess the ability to handle both task-oriented duties and people-oriented duties as well as multi-tasking and remain focused under potentially stressful situations. In addition, a dispatcher must possess problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, and be able to function independently or as part of a team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Receive and document calls for services, and dispatch officers.
● Analyze the nature of various security, safety and emergency situations, responding in accordance with policy and procedure. Carry out orders and responses to emergencies with accuracy and efficiency.
● Maintain accurate dispatching records; utilizing Omnigo System for all calls, including lockouts, transports, security checks, etc.
● Operate Department of Public Safety equipment (Equipment must be monitored at all times.)
o Two-way radio
o Monitor Simplex TrueSite computer system for all burglar, fire, panic alarms, low temperature alarms and miscellaneous alarms
o Monitor CCTV (closed circuit TV cameras) as needed.
o Electronic access computer for unlocking/locking doors, disabling prop alarms, deactivating lost electronic access FOBs. Take calls from departments to programs doors.
● Issue equipment to all staff members at shift change. Maintain inventory, using log, of all equipment issued including master key rings, event radios and miscellaneous keys.
● Put in work orders for facilities as needed; call out facilities supervisor after hours for work determined by the dispatch as a priority. Dispatch custodians when available.
● Print/Deactivate Student badges after hours. Enter lost key forms and call out a lock smith if it meets the criteria.
● Monitor the front door access system to allow visitors in after hours and provide assistance as needed.
● Retrieve lost and found items from the lockers and return to a student, staff or faculty.
● Issuance of UBER Vouchers
● Checks in hourly with the steam plant to ensure safety
Lead Dispatcher Responsibilities:
• Training of new dispatchers and development of current dispatchers
• Flexible work schedule to assist covering leave time requests
• Maintain updated supplies, forms and computerized passwords updated and all online data
• Ensure the room is kept organized and maintained (enter work as needed, carpets, bathroom etc.) Qualifications:

2. Ability to speak clearly and concisely during both telephone and radio communications.
3. Ability to deal with the public in a polite and tactful manner. Ability to maintain composure during emergency situations.
