The Senior Custodial Supervisor provides leadership and oversight of custodial operations across campus, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. This role supervises Custodial Supervisors and the Inventory Coordinator, manages daily operations and plays a key role in supporting campus events and emergency response efforts. The Senior Custodial Supervisor reports to the Associate Director of Facilities Operations.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Custodial Supervisor leads and develops custodial supervisory staff, ensuring accountability, performance management, and alignment with departmental goals. The role oversees custodial services across all campus facilities, including residential, academic, and administrative buildings, while managing staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet operational needs.
This position coordinates large-scale cleaning initiatives such as summer and special projects, establishes and maintains quality assurance standards, and collaborates with campus partners to support events and institutional priorities. The supervisor also ensures comprehensive staff training and compliance with safety standards, including OSHA regulations.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing administrative functions such as inventory control, supply chain coordination, and budget monitoring. The role conducts regular inspections to maintain quality standards, and implements continuous improvement strategies.
The Senior Custodial Supervisor serves as a key contact for emergency response, participates in an on-call rotation, and coordinates resources during urgent situations.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5–7 years of progressive custodial or facilities experience, including at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience managing multiple teams or supervisors is preferred.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and diverse teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of custodial methods, equipment, and safety practices. Budget awareness, resource management, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure are critical for success in this role.
Working Conditions
This is a physically active role requiring the ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, and lift up to 75 pounds. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and includes visual inspection of facilities. The position requires occasional extended or irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities, and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
