Lafayette College has an openings for Full-Time Police Officers. Responsibilities include the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws on campus. Our ideal candidate possesses a strong desire to serve the community, is certified under PA Act 120, has earned an Associate’s Degree or higher or has prior experience as a community-oriented police officer, and is serious about taking advantage of our outstanding educational benefits (see below)
The position demands excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public
Responsibilities
• The Police Officer is charged with the security of life, limb, property, and equipment, and the enforcement of all institution rules, regulations, and State and Federal laws
• Enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rules and regulations of Lafayette College
• Provide armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot
• Investigate reports of criminal activity
• Document any police interactions and prepare reports in the dept.’s record management system
• Provide security of all campus buildings and property by assisting in the locking of buildings and reporting any circumstances that present a danger to college students, employees or property
• Direct traffic and investigate motor vehicle accidents
• Provide a variety of services including but not limited to: medical transports, motorist assists, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, respond to fire safety device activations, accident and criminal investigations
• Conduct crime awareness programs along with Resident Advisors for the students
• Check for and report all suspicious activity, equipment malfunction, and other irregularities
• Provide for security at special events
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Chief of Police, Lieutenant or Sergeant
