The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the College’s financial decision- making processes. This position requires a deep understanding of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis tailored specifically for a higher education environment. The Senior Financial Analyst collaborates closely with departments across the institution to ensure financial sustainability, optimize resource allocation, and support strategic initiatives. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Budget & Forecasting
• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the annual operating and capital budget and forecasts
• Work with assigned areas to allocate funds, develop, and monitor budgets aligned with the College and division’s goals or priorities
• Conduct or assist with the annual position planning and forecast processes
• Support strategic planning by providing financial models and data analysis to inform strategic decisions, including capital projects
Business Partnering
• Establish and maintain relationships with key budget contacts in assigned areas
• Collaborate with senior management of assigned areas to align financial goals with operational priorities
• Communicate with senior leaders assessing and finding solutions to meet unique needs
• Serve as a resource to others in the development and monitoring of the financial plans
• Partner with key budget contacts and provide direction or training pertaining to policy, procedures and financial system use
Financial Reporting and Analysis
• Prepare and present regular financial reports for senior leadership, including variance analysis and performance trends to monitor performance throughout the year
• Provide actionable insights for decision-making
• Analyze spending patterns across the institution, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements
Other
• Provide Board, Senior Leadership and Budget Committee support as needed
• Review and analyze budget transfers, requests or position budget changes
• Support the daily operations to ensure compliance of college policies and procedures
• Identify and implement best practices and technology solutions to streamline financial processes, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance collaboration
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree or professional certification preferred
• 5+ years’ experience in financial analysis with a focus on finance or budgeting
• Strong understanding of the unique financial structures within higher education, including tuition revenue, endowment, capital projects and financial statements
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with financial systems and software (i.e. Banner, Anaplan, Cognos)
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and to exercise confidentiality and discretion
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication
• Ability to analyze financial data, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders
