Lafayette College Libraries seeks a technically proficient, detail-oriented, and service-oriented Acquisitions Technician. Work entails a variety of technical procedures in an integrated library system, maintaining administrative and budgetary records and files, and complex office work and problem solving. This position requires that the employee has strong knowledge, skill, and ability in a technical services environment.
Job Duties Include: Prepare monographic requests for ordering books, electronic books, standing orders, audio-visual materials, and international and out of print orders. Verify invoices for payment, check statements, utilize procurement card and document purchases. Prepare and maintain budget reports in the integrated library system and spreadsheets. Work with vendors to prepare orders, set up and claim standing orders, and resolve problems. Keep detailed records of missing orders, standing orders, and incomplete orders. Communicate with library staff, faculty, and students. Secondary duties include assisting with copy cataloging, serials, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications: Working knowledge of cataloging standards, rules, and procedures including integrated library systems (specifically FOLIO software), MARC format, Library of Congress classification, and OCLC bibliographic services. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies. Accurate proofreading and advanced office computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Drive. Knowledge of budget and fund report structures and procedures. Extremely detail oriented and a good problem solver with analytical abilities and flexibility to prioritize multiple tasks. High degree of independent judgment and decision making. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, and the general public. At least three years of related library technical services experience or equivalent knowledge of technical services standards, practices, and procedures. College degree preferred. Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
