The Art Department and Film and Media Studies (FAMS) Program at Lafayette College invite applications for the position of Technology Assistant Specialist. This is a 0.75 benefits-eligible Union position. We seek a well-organized individual with experience working in an academic environment, particularly in supporting faculty and students. The Art Department combines Art History and Studio Art, while Film and Media Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers courses in production, theory, and history.
We strongly encourage candidates with prior experience in educational technology support to apply. The ideal candidate will possess technical skills and show a willingness to learn the specific software and hardware used in our teaching environments. Responsibilities will include scanning images and readings (including OCR processing for accessibility), calibrating and maintaining digital printers, 3D printers, and laser cutters. The specialist will also manage the inventory of camera equipment used in Art and FAMS classes, oversee its distribution, upkeep, and maintenance, and train student workers on equipment usage within the Art Department.
List of primary responsibilities
For Art History:
● Scan images for classroom instruction
● Calibrate and maintain 3D printers
● Scan course readings for instructors (include OCR processing to ensure course materials are accessible)
For Studio Art:
● Organize and maintain DSLR inventory (e.g., Rebel cameras and other high-end digital and analog cameras) for all photography and lens-based classes
● Distribute and collect DSLR Cameras to/from students every semester, including for summer classes.
● Train TAs and assist students in the use of photo equipment, large-format printers, laser cutters, and 3D printing for class projects
● Troubleshoot printers
For FAMS:
● Manage, organize, maintain, track, and quality test all equipment for students in Film and Media Studies courses.
● Maintain a new shared inventory database of cameras, tripods, lenses, batteries, mics and more.
● Assign and loan equipment to each class (and sometimes individual students) based on need and demand of each semester.
● Identify and budget equipment to be replaced or updated
