The Associate Director for Municipal Services facilitates executive recruitments (i.e., city managers, finance directors, police chiefs, and others) for local governments in Lafayette College’s region (mainly Northampton, Lehigh, Carbon, Monroe, Bucks, Montgomery, Berks, Delaware, Chester, and Warren counties); undertakes administrative and financial analyses, organizational assessments, strategic planning, salary-and-benefit surveys, labor-contract negotiation, administrative services to selected local agencies, training activities, and other services as appropriate to local and state governments, agencies, COGs, and Lafayette College; recruits local and state government internship positions for students; promotes the public visibility of the Meyner Center; and contributes to the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Center experiences a large demand for municipal services, and it charges modestly for these services. Within three years of starting the position, the Associate Director for Municipal Services will be expected to generate revenue sufficient to cover their salary and benefits and provide revenue for other related Center activities.

The job requires practical experience in state-local public service, such as city management, and/or a graduate degree in public administration or political science with practical experience. The position requires an ability to work independently, solve problems, deploy excellent verbal and written communication skills, provide outstanding customer service, travel to municipalities to provide services, sustain social media outreach, manage time and prioritize tasks, and work effectively with elected and appointed public officials off campus as well as with students, faculty, and staff on campus as occasionally necessary.

The Associate Director for Municipal Services is a 12-month non-tenure administrative position. The Associate Director for Municipal Services reports directly to the Director of the Meyner Center and works in close coordination with the Center’s Associate Director for Public Service. A shared on-campus office space is available for this position in 013 Kirby Hall of Civil Rights. Salary is competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
