Two positions available. One focused on Hazardous Materials/Labs and one on Life Safety and Emergency Prep

Hazardous/Material Labs: Focus on campus-wide environmental management (land, air and water safety). This includes hazardous chemicals (cradle to grave), medical and other wastes; air emissions; lead paint management; asbestos management; oil spill control plan etc.
• Minimum Qualifications – Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or Environmental Science or a related field and at least five years of experience in environmental, health and safety programs or any combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work.

Life Safety and Emergency Prep: Focus on maintaining fire extinguisher program and emergency response preparation.
• Minimum Qualifications – Associate’s degree in Safety Management or Environmental Science or a related field and at least five years of experience in environmental, health and safety programs or any combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs professional, administrative, and clerical duties in the support of environmental, health, and safety services, including development and management of all policies, procedures and programs, training, communication, database and record-keeping systems. Requires in-depth knowledge of Lafayette College policy, procedures, programs, and operation. Initiates or completes projects, coordinates operations, trains Lafayette College staff and employees and delivers services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)

Assist Assistant Director of Public Safety with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for effective environmental and occupational safety and health practices mandated by federal, state, and local laws and agencies.

Develops and distributes educational and informational materials to students, staff, and faculty to promote an awareness of environmental, health, and safety requirements at the college.

Creates, types, proofs, and distributes technical reports, forms, letters, and other information as necessary to document regulatory compliance and program effectiveness; includes annual hazardous waste report; SARA Title III and controlled substances records.

Participates on the college Occupational Health and Safety Committee and/or Chemical Hygiene Committee. Coordinates logistics, record keeping, and evaluation of data and reports for monthly meetings and quarterly inspections. Assist in conducting accident investigations.

Assists with database and paper copy records of employee health and safety training, incident and injury reports, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, blood borne pathogens, and others. Maintains Data Sheets, conducts campus-wide inspections, regularly audits and reports on our over-all program.

Assists with maintaining the fire extinguisher inspection program as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of occupational safety and health and environmental laws, regulations, practices, procedures, and policies.

• Considerable knowledge of technical and/or business practices related to environmental regulations, occupational health and safety, and/or risk management.

• Knowledge of record keeping and database practices and procedures.

• Ability to interpret and apply environmental, and occupational health and safety policies within area of assignment.

• Ability to provide effective training and accurate information to the college community.

• Ability to research, analyze data, and prepare reports and correspondence.

• Ability to analyze and evaluate operations and develop and implement corrective action to resolve problems.

• Ability to maintain a high level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, students, vendors, and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Limited exposure to hazardous conditions, hazardous materials, weather, or potentially dangerous situations. Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, walking, sitting for extended periods.
