Lafayette College seeks a talented, collaborative Interactive Graphic Designer to join the Communications Division. Under the direction of the Director of Creative Services.  The graphic designer uses design (both print and electronic) to tell visual stories, and is able to collaborate and contribute a creative perspective to the creative team and the college. This person conceptualizes and creates print and digital design assets that bring our content to life in magazines, electronic newsletters, direct-mail pieces, on the Web, via social media etc.

This person is enthusiastic, engaged, creative and solution-oriented with a positive attitude, and has a comprehensive understanding of visual communication principles and sufficient knowledge of HTML, CSS and web usability. Through visual communication methods and techniques, the web/graphic designer’s work will depict Lafayette College as a premier liberal arts college; amplify its identity and brand; while helping inform, engage and inspire alumni, donors, friends, faculty, staff, students and community members.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

  • Create final, production-ready print and digital graphic assets
  • Contribute design to projects across mediums, including: web sites, e-newsletters, magazines, social media channels, video, mailings, event collateral,
  • Serve internal clients across the campus
  • Actively participate in creative conversations and brainstorming sessions with various functional teams
  • Work within and help reinforce the visual identity, brand standards, tone and messaging
  • Stay current with marketing and design trends and best practices across all print and digital mediums
  • Work with external vendors as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned to further the goals and objectives of the Communications Division

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience

5 year minimum work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in web design and graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate must:

  • Be able to work and problem solve independently and within a team, and to juggle multiple projects and priorities at once
  • Demonstrate multi-faceted design experience and ability to use design to impact outcomes
  • Demonstrate ability to develop multiple creative solutions from concept to completion, and also work with pre-established design strategies
  • Have proficient understanding of web design, including HTML and CSS and javascript
  • Be knowledgeable in print production processes
  • Excellent organization, time- and project-management and relationship-building skills necessary to work in an academic institution
  • Proficiency with industry standard software, including the Adobe Creative
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and Google products
  • Motion graphics, photography and/or illustration skills/experience a plus
