Lafayette College which overlooks the historic Lehigh Valley and the Delaware River is seeking a limited number of responsible custodians to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of our buildings reflects on our College Community. It is important for our custodians to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.

Custodial responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain classroom, dormitory and recreational and / or dining buildings, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings
  • Perform routine cleaning including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping, buffing and waxing floors; dusting; washing walls, and windows; and emptying trash
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance and repairs, assist with snow removal, furniture moves, event set up and break down and perform other related duties as required


  • Successful candidates will be able to work independently
  • Follow basic instructions
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Be familiar with basic custodial and handyman practices
  • Safely operate equipment
  • Possess a knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
  • Possess a knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Use six and eight foot ladders in performance of job duties
  • 9 months to one year prior professional custodial experience preferred


  • Second shift 3:30 pm to Midnight regular schedule is Monday to Friday with occasional overnight and/ or weekend schedules


  • $15 to  $ 16 per hour
  • Normal work schedule is 40 hours per week
