Instructional Designer PART-TIME

The Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges (LVAIC) is a consortium of six colleges and universities located in eastern Pennsylvania: Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College, and Muhlenberg College.  We seek a creative and innovative individual for the position of Instructional Designer for the consortium. This position will assist, advise and support faculty members from all LVAIC institutions in the development of hybrid and blended cross-consortium courses and modules.  This one-year part-time position is supported by a generous grant from the Teagle Foundation.

The position will be formally placed within Lafayette College, and will report to Lafayette’s Director for the Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship.  Within the context of courses designed to take advantage of the LVAIC consortium, the instructional designer will:

  • Collaborate with LVAIC faculty members in the application of complex instructional design principles and educational technology to develop courses and modules.
  • Build positive and productive relationships with faculty throughout LVAIC, guiding them through the process of designing blended and hybrid courses.
  • Support the transition from face-to-face instructional delivery to a blended or hybrid learning environment within LVAIC.
  • Develop and conduct training of faculty, particularly related to the use of appropriate pedagogical strategies and new and existing technologies in the development and redesign of courses that benefit the consortium.

  • Graduate work and teaching experience in higher education.
  • Master’s degree or higher in instructional design or in a similar education program.
  • Experience assisting higher education faculty to select and implement pedagogical strategies in their teaching.
  • Experience with helping to identify appropriate technologies to enhance teaching, impact learning, and achieve pedagogical goals.
  • Experience using multiple learning management systems and digital tools used in higher education.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
  • Experience achieving objectives through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

LVAIC: Founded in 1969, the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent College’s success has been founded on the principle of collaboration. Our distinctive consortium, one of the oldest in the country, consists of six member colleges and universities in the Lehigh Valley, as well as six associate member institutions in the eastern Pennsylvania region. LVAIC has consistently sought to expand educational options for students, nurture academic research and professional development for faculty and staff, and promote outreach to local and regional communities. Our vision is to make strong colleges stronger through collaboration.
